IHBC Chair David McDonald said:
‘I was greatly saddened to learn that Gordon Sorenson had died. I’d known him from the early days of setting up the Building Conservation Directory and more latterly as publisher of Context and the IHBC Yearbook.’
‘From the beginning I was impressed by his professionalism and business acumen. However his interest in conservation was always much more than as solely a publisher. He was always a great supporter of the IHBC, even going as far as allowing us to use Cathedral Communications’ office in Tisbury as our business address. IHBC staff and officers will miss his courteous approach and calm manner whatever the circumstances and his memory will stay with us well into the future’.
Jonathan Taylor writes:
On Thursday evening, 17th August, our great friend and colleague at Cathedral Communications, Gordon Sorensen, passed away after a short battle with cancer. Gordon, his wife Liz Coyle-Camp and I set up the company 30 years ago, and as our managing director and a chartered accountant, Gordon was instrumental in establishing the viability of our first publication, The Building Conservation Directory, which revolutionised the availability of conservation materials and sector expertise in the 1990s.
He leaves behind a wife and two daughters, to whom we send our deepest condolences. He will be missed hugely by his family and by his many friends and colleagues.
