IHBC features ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Common approach agreed for a sustainable 20 Minute Neighbourhood in Edinburgh


West Town Edinburgh Ltd, the development consortium which owns more than 200 hectares of prime development land west of Edinburgh, has agreed with Edinburgh City Council on a joint approach to creating a major new ’20 Minute Neighbourhood’ for the city, reports UK Daily News.

Scottish Construction Now writes:

Both parties have agreed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ outlining how they will work closely together to develop an implementation strategy for Edinburgh’s sustainable expansion at the West Town site. The agreement was announced by Cammy Day, Chair of Edinburgh City Council, and Graeme Bone, Group Managing Director of West Town developer Drum Property Group.

Edinburgh City Council’s 2030 Urban Plan notes that the area has the potential to become a vibrant, densely populated urban extension with the capacity for 7,000 homes and the commercial and community facilities required for a 20-minute borough…

Cammy Day, Edinburgh City Council leader, said: ‘Edinburgh is fast becoming the pioneer of the kind of affordable, sustainable homes our residents need and this overlooked land in West Town could pave the way for thousands more to come.’….
