Icon update on staff changes

Icon, the Institute of Conservation, has announced changes to its personnel.

Alison Richmond, Icon CEO, writes:

New Staff for Icon

The Board of Trustees and Chief Executive of Icon are delighted to announce three new additions to the staff teamand one change of role. ??Icon has recently restructured its staffing to align staff skills more closely with Icon’s Strategic Plan 2012-16. Icon’s priorities over the next three years are to generate more income for the charity to thrive, contribute to the delivery of a National Conservation Education Strategy, and ensure a legacy of work-based training opportunities from its HLF-funded internship programme which ends in March 2012. To achieve this, Icon posts have been revised and elevated to take the lead on delivering in these critical operation areas, and at the same time, free the Chief Executive from day-to-day operations to campaign for conservation in the UK, build partnerships and secure sponsors.

Professional Development Manager?Susan Bradshaw has been recruited to the position of Professional Development Manager. Susan has been the Accreditation Manager at Icon since 2005 and before that at our predecessor body, UKIC, since 2002. She has a great deal of experience managing Icon’s nationally recognised professional qualification, with over 820 accredited conservators and involving over 200 volunteer members in the peer review process. She will bring her impressive skills to the new job overseeing Icon’s professional training, development, qualifications and standards.  Susan is also responsible for the professional standards of the Conservation Register. ?Email: sbradshaw@icon.org.uk?Direct Line: 01626 824510

Skills Strategy Manager?Working closely with Susan on the development of training, qualifications and standards is Kenneth Aitchison, who joined Icon as our new Skills Strategy Manager on January 4th. This role is supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to deliver elements of Icon’s National Conservation Education & Skills Strategy Action Plan. Kenneth brings with him a wealth of experience in vocational education and training development and delivery, as well as research and project management. From 2001-10, he was Head of Projects and Professional Development at the Institute for Archaeologists, a professional association closely related to Icon. ?Email: kaitchison@icon.org.uk?Direct line: 0114 281 0904

Business Manager?Simon Green, our new Business Manager, joined the team on November 1st in the new post of Business Manager. This role is responsible for finance and day-to-day operations and will enable the Chief Executive to take a more active role in communications, strategic planning, advocacy and fundraising. Simon is also the direct liaison for Group finances. Simon is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Conservation Register. Simon has a long association with the conservation profession, having been Chair of the Institute for Paper Conservation for five years, and is a life member of Icon. He has extensive experience of charity and business management, as head of a leading environment charity, Groundwork, for 15 years and his own handmade paper-making business for 21.  Email: sgreen@icon.org.uk?Direct Line: 020 3142 6784

Membership Manager?Wiebke Morgan, who took up the new post of Membership Manager on January 5th, comes to Icon from the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), where her most recent role is Senior Marketing and Events Coordinator, and previous roles include Membership Executive. Wiebke is responsible for membership, including developing membership services and communications, recruitment and marketing. Wiebke is the direct liaison for groups.  ?Email: wmorgan@icon.org.uk?Direct Line: 020 3142 6785

Work-based Training Manager and Work-based Training Officer?Icon’s Training Bursary Scheme ‘Skills in Practice’ funded with £1.49M from the Heritage Lottery Fund comes to an end in March 2012 after six successful years. Carol Brown and Georgina Ripley are working very hard to manage the transition, to evaluate the scheme and to celebrate its success. Unfortunately, the end of funding means that these two posts will be lost and Icon’s Edinburgh office will close. Responsibility for Icon’s work-based learning programmes, internships and Conservation Technician Qualification will transfer to Susan Bradshaw and Kenneth Aitchison.
