New CABE chair sought

Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) is the government’s advisor on architecture, urban design and public space. The chief responsibilities of the Chair will be to:

•maintain established links and forge new ones with government, professional organisations and other bodies, including acting as CABE’s principal contact with ministers

•Act as an ambassador, representing the views of the Commission to CABE’s audiences, and encourage public and press interest in the cause of good architecture, urban design and public spaceEngage with the range of CABE’s activities and lead CABE’s dynamic board of Commissioners encouraging them to participate fully and to:

i) exercise strategic direction in seeking to raise architecture and built environment standards and awareness throughout England.
ii) formulate the Commission’s strategy for discharging the functions assigned to it under the provisions of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act
iii) monitor CABE’s performance, use of resources and ensure accountability.

•work with the Chief Executive to:

i)ensure that the commission, in reaching decisions takes proper account of all relevant guidance, including that provided by sponsor and funding departments, Cabinet Office and HMT
ii)encourage high standards of propriety and promote efficient and effective use of staff and other resources throughout the organisation

•appraise and provide an assessment of the performance of individual Commissioners on an annual basis, and on request when they are being considered for reappointment to the Commission, or for appointment to the board of another other public body.
