IHBC Annual School booking opens today

FIT PAST – FUTURE PERFECT?
Conservation: a key to sustainable design
Buxton, Thursday 11th June to Saturday 13th June

Today IHBC Chair Dave Chetwyn launched the opening of the booking for the IHBC’s 2009 Annual School, the major training event in the sector’s calendar. ‘This year’s Annual School is a unique and valuable opportunity to focus on the interaction between climate change and the historic environment,’ Mr Chetwyn said. ‘We’ll be looking at what our members can do to help address global warming, and respond to its potentially devastating impacts. The historic environment has a positive role to play, and the IHBC is the body best placed to lead the thinking that is required to secure the real potential historic environment’ he continued.

Robert Walker, IHBC East Midlands Branch Chair and co-organiser said ‘Expert speakers will look for practical solutions to promote the sustainability of historic buildings. The School will let people hear about current initiatives and new approaches to mitigating climate change and its impacts. We will gain insights from recent projects and consider ways of adapting and
enhancing our historic environment’.

The main venue is the 4 star Palace Hotel in the historic spa town of Buxton, at the heart of Derbyshire’s Peak District, combining stunning scenery with magnificent architecture. Tours will visit highlights of sustainable development in this National Park.
