Regional heritage low carb. project seeks info

A Regional Improvement & Efficiency Partnership Project, lead by Leeds City & Kirklees Council, its aims is to support the Yorkshire and Humber region in meeting climate change objectives whilst continuing to conserve the historic built environment.

The Heritage Assets and Low Carbon Renovation Project is a current piece of work under which Kirklees and Leeds Councils want to hear about good practice, ideally from the Yorkshire and Humber region, which demonstrates environmentally-sustainable work and practices in historic contexts. The aim is to include such examples in planned guidance for the region.

Energy and thermal efficiency measures together with microgeneration & renewables work is of interest. Work may include:

• the installation of smart meters to monitor energy use?• the use of natural insulation/materials

• traditional and low energy materials such as lime plasters or mortars?• new draughtproofing and/or secondary glazing

• and sensitively placed renewable energy sources on/within the building or its grounds.

Work could also include energy-efficient lighting and equipment, more efficient boilers and other heating sources, plus work done on buildings using reclaimed and/or sustainably sourced materials, environmentally-friendly paint and/or any other interesting design features or measures that are energy efficient and sustainable.

Joanna Needham at Kirklees Council said: “We would like to know about both elemental small scale work and larger projects/renovations. If you know about or have been involved with such work we would be delighted to hear from you and would ask you contact either myself Joanne Needham or  (my colleague) Matthew Bentley at Leeds City Council.”
