Girdwood Community Hub takes top honours at Northern Ireland RICS Awards

More than 30 of Northern Ireland’s most impressive and community-beneficial property schemes battled it out for top honours at the RICS Awards 2017, Northern Ireland with North Belfast’s Girdwood Community Hub claiming the overall ‘Project of the Year’ award.

RICS writes:

The prestigious annual ceremony — held at the luxurious La Mon Hotel near Belfast — celebrates inspirational initiatives in the land, property and construction sectors.

Broadcaster Paul Clark was the host for this year’s sell-out ceremony, which attracted more than 200 property professionals from across Northern Ireland.

The highly acclaimed Project of the Year title is presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area. Delivered by VB Evans and Co, Michael Whitely Architects and O’Hare and McGovern for Belfast City Council, the site of a former British Army Base has been transformed into a vibrant community resource. The judges praised the project for creating a ‘positive ripple effect impacting the built environment dramatically and positively.’

Category winners included:

  • Building Conservation – John Bell House, Belfast
  • Commercial – Waterfront Hall, Belfast
  • Community Benefit – The Junction, Dungannon
  • Design through Innovation – Main site tower and Peter Froggatt Centre, Queen’s University, Belfast
  • Infrastructure – Stoneyford Integrated Constructed Wetland (ICW)
  • Regeneration – North Queen Street, Belfast
  • Residential – The Gallery, Belfast
  • Tourism & Leisure – Bishop’s Gate Hotel, Derry~Londonderry.

Several projects were also Highly Commended.
