The Vernacular Architecture Group (VAG) is offering three bursaries to assist registered students or professionals in the early years of their career to attend the Spring Conference, ti take place at High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire from 11 to 15 April 2017, with applications closing 3 March.

VAG writes:

The 2017 Spring Conference of the Vernacular Architecture Group will be held at High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire from Tuesday 11 to Saturday 15 April 2017. During the day members will tour the locality, visiting and interpreting lesser traditional buildings; lectures and discussions will be held in the evenings. The visits will cover St Albans and west Hertfordshire (Wednesday), Ware and east Hertfordshire (Thursday) and Ashwell and north Hertfordshire (Friday).  Evening speakers will include Lee Prosser, Anne Rowe, Andrea Kirkham and John Walker.

The Vernacular Architecture Group is able to offer THREE bursaries to assist registered students or professionals in the early years of their career to attend the Spring Conference.  The Committee is aware that the cost often makes attendance difficult for students who might benefit from the lectures and discussions, and from the opportunity to meet others active in the field.  We hope that the recipients will be sufficiently inspired by the conference to wish to join the VAG if they are not already members. There is no age limit, and both full-time and part-time students are welcome to apply.

Applicants must normally be students of vernacular architecture or a related discipline. They should send brief details including a resume of academic courses and any special reasons for attending this conference that may help in the selection of an appropriate candidate.  Candidates will be expected to show evidence of an active interest in vernacular architecture and explain how they hope to benefit from attending the conference.

ANY APPLICATION FROM A STUDENT MUST BE ENDORSED BY THEIR COURSE TUTOR and any other financial support available to the applicant for attending the conference must be declared. THE BURSARY WILL COVER THE FULL COST OF THE  £400 CONFERENCE FEE (but will not cover travel or any other expenses).

Applications and tutor endorsements should be sent by email to the VAG Secretary, Claire Jeffery, email secretary@vag.org.uk to reach her no later than Friday 3 March 2017.
