The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has extended the awards entry deadline for projects in eight categories, including Building Conservation, that showcase inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the built environment.
All shortlisted projects and winners receive recognition and media coverage for the project and involved parties. There are eight categories to enter that demonstrate how professionals develop, regenerate and conserve the environment in which they live and work. These are:
- Building conservation
- Commercial
- Community benefit
- Design through innovation
- Infrastructure
- Regeneration
- Residential
- Tourism & leisure.
Each category is judged against criteria of design, appearance, size and cost, and a commitment to sustainability. Entries must relate to activities or initiatives conducted three years prior to the closing date.
Judges will select regional award winners for each of the eight categories, with each being entered into the national RICS Awards Grand Final, which will be held in London in November 2017. The judges will then name one overall category winner – Project of the Year.
The winner of the 2016 RICS Building Conservation award was Mount Stewart in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. This is an 18th century building with major historical relevance, including housing the World War II war cabinet and as a residence for Royalty. Cardigan Castle in Wales was Highly Commended at the 2016 awards.
