IHBC seeks perspectives on Brexit planning for conservation – plans Europe ‘Special Interest Group’ following Council+ discussions

With numerous initiatives now beginning to examine  ‘Brexit’, also known as Brexit, the IHBC, led by Mike Brown, IHBC Vice President, is asking members for their perspectives on Brexit planning for the conservation sector, and would like to hear from members with ideas on these matters, and/or any interest in joining an IHBC European Special Interest Group.

IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘At the IHBC’s recent Council+ meeting, where IHBC practitioners of all membership categories gather to consider strategic issues for the sector, Mike informally explored the potential needs and benefits of a more structured IHBC link to Europe, especially in light of wider political changes.’

‘Following this, and as a clear sign of the benefits of such discussions at Council+, the IHBC is keen to explore the establishment of a special interest group to examine any related cross-cutting issues that might be of interest to members.’

Mike Brown said: ‘This initiative would foster relations with similar heritage protection groups, professional bodies and agencies across wider Europe.  Advantages could include better liaison and agreement on common professional standards and practices, learning and training, and maintaining a UK presence in pan-European initiatives and thinking.’
