Lottery boosts coastal tourism with £33 million investment in parks

The National Lottery funds will revitalise 13 public parks across the UK, including five situated in coastal communities.

With the recent increase in ‘staycations’ and daytrips to the seaside, the Heritage Lottery Fund see public parks playing a major part in an area’s tourism offering.

When complete, the 13 projects will provide improved green spaces for local people to enjoy and will help attract more tourism, and so support local economies. The money has been awarded through Parks for People, a joint programme supported by Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund.

The coastal parks receiving grants are:

  • Great Yarmouth’s Venetian Waterways
  • South Cliff Gardens in Scarborough
  • Ellington Park in Ramsgate
  • Mount Garden in Fleetwood, Lancashire
  • Stanmer Park in Brighton.
