Two Scottish WWII heritage sites win HLF funding

A boat that saved the lives of 600 stranded Allied troops at Dunkirk and a former prisoner of war camp will receive more than £1m for restoration work from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the BBC reports.

Due to disrepair, the Skylark Nine sank in Loch Lomond in 2010 but has won funding of more than £420,000 and will become a floating museum. The restoration will act as a training programme for recovering drug addicts.

And 11 former Nissen huts at the former Cultybraggan prisoner of war camp in Perthshire will be restored and converted into self-catering accommodation with a grant of nearly £640,000.
