A guide from BSRIA – the consultancy, test, instruments and research organisation – explains how building performance evaluation should be performed and what activities and methods can be used to address issues related to energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
BSRIA –which is owned by The Building Services Research and Information Association – has written the guide which says that, despite genuine intentions to develop efficient homes and other residential buildings, the industry is still ‘missing the mark’.
It says research shows that buildings do not always perform in the way that was originally intended, resulting in inefficiencies in energy performance and occupant dissatisfaction. Building performance evaluation (BPE) evaluates how new and existing buildings perform.
This guide is intended to explain how to use BPE to understand how homes and other residential buildings are performing, and to investigate and address any issues. It is aimed at clients, designers, developers, contractors, housing associations and social landlords, to improve their understanding about BPE and how they can benefit from it.
The guide is available as a free download from the BSRIA website.
