IHBC to present at Albert Dock 175th anniversary lecture series

liverpool_albertdock2017The Albert 175 Interpro lecture series will include lectures from 13 built environment institutions focused on the Albert Dock as it approaches its 175th anniversary.

How the Albert Dock was rescued and brought back to use will be told in a series of professional lecture events running for five years up to 2021, when the 175th anniversary of its opening will be celebrated.

Ten half-yearly lectures will focus on different aspects of this heritage-led regeneration project that saw the redundant, bomb damaged Albert Dock transformed into a successful cultural and commercial hub. The first event focused on the role of town planning in the Dock’s regeneration and the next will be led jointly by the IHBC and IStructE.

The lectures will consider the contribution made by built environment professionals to the Albert Dock’s regeneration and its ongoing development. They will explore how the influential Merseyside Development Corporation project inspired other waterside and post-industrial regeneration projects not only in the UK but also across the world.

The Albert Dock has employed a professional writer to record the lecture series with the hope that this material can be collated into a publication at the end of the series in 2021.

Look out for future NewsBlogs on the series and IHBC’s lecture taking place on 23 March 2017.
