IHBC Annual & Day School: Book now

Places at the Annual School and Day School of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) are filling up fast, and prospective delegates are being encouraged to now book their place at ‘Going for Gold’ (London, 10-12 June) if they are to secure a place at this, the key training event for building and historic environment conservation specialists from across the UK.

IHBC vice-chair Sheila Stones, lead organiser of the School, said: “We’re hugely impressed with the enthusiasm for the London School currently being shown by both IHBC members and non-members.  Combining practical case studies & visits with up-to-date analysis of the changing face of conservation services, both inside and outside the public sector, lets us provide first rate training and CPD opportunities for all delegates.  With the Day School located in the modern Grade 1 listed building, the Royal College of Physicians, and with its quality conference services to match, the venue will be a fitting setting for the examination of how we get the best into, and out of, our historic places.”

Seán O’Reilly, IHBC Director said: “The early success of the 2010 School is a great testament to the work put into the event by our London Branch.  The widespread interest in the conference theme, on quality outcomes for valued places, confirms that the sector as a whole is not only successfully riding the wave during the recession, but that it is willing to embrace the kind of forward thinking on services and standards that is essential to underpin progress in any upturn.  In particular, with the arrival of the new historic environment planning policy statement in England (PPS 5) our conference is the best opportunity for specialists to find out how fellow practitioners are applying it to their work, and how it can provide context to conservation issues across the UK.”

Fiona Newton, IHBC Projects Officer responsible for event, said: “We’ve nearly filled the exhibitors’ spaces, but we can still take more delegate material, so anyone wanting to reach our delegates, should first go to the School’s excellent website to find out more.  In the meantime, with CPD now mandatory across our full members, we’ll begin a new round of testing in the coming months, and if you’ve any concerns about meeting the IHBC’s time and content requirements, the School is a great opportunity to top up and make sure yours are all up to scratch.”
