Five towns and cities shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2021
Coventry, Paisley, Stoke-on-Trent, Sunderland and Swansea have been shortlisted to host UK City of Culture 2021, Minister for Arts, Heritage and Tourism, John Glen announced following a meeting of the independent advisory panel chaired by Phil Redmond.

A pioneering scheme New Generation Thinkers 2018 from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) aims to develop a new generation of academics who can bring the best of university research and scholarly ideas to a broad audience through working with the media, and offers a chance for early career researchers to cultivate the skills to communicate their research findings to those outside the academic community.

National Churches Trust’s ‘Five point plan’ to secure the future of the UK’s church buildings
A five point plan to secure the future of the UK’s church buildings has been set out by the National Churches Trust as follows:
- Prioritise the maintenance of church buildings.
- Make more churches centres for the community.
- Put churches firmly on the visitor and tourist map.
- Create a one-stop shop for churches applying for funding for repairs and maintenance.
- Open church buildings every day.

IHBC’s new–style local training for UK practitioners: ‘Heritage Project Management’ – A ‘Unique Learning Experience’, on site at Bishop Auckland’s £90million project suite, 18/19 October
On 18/19th October the IHBC, with local and national partners, will host a learning day and more on ‘Heritage Project Management’, at Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, offering delegates from across the UK practical insights into the working of heritage-led regeneration projects across Castle, conservation area and building works valued at some £90 million.
Delegates will gain a ‘Unique Learning Experience’ from the IHBC, with select, first-hand, case-based guidance and insights on heritage and conservation projects, exploring an ‘A to Z’ of a remarkable suite of heritage projects ‘From Auckland Castle and Bishop Auckland to Zurbarán’.
