A new education programme has been launched by Cadw focusing on the world heritage of Wales, with free visits for schools and a selection of supporting online resources on world heritage sites for download.

A bespoke education programme focussing on the World Heritage Site of the Castles and Town Walls of Edward I is now available free of charge.
The activity sessions, aimed primarily at pupils aged 7-11 and at Welsh Baccalaureate level, have been inspired by the castles of Caernarfon, Conwy, Harlech and Beaumaris in North West Wales. They have been specifically designed to help schools learn about daily life of people living in the time of the Age of the Princes as part of Key Stage 2 History and Curriculum Cymreig key elements of the Welsh National Curriculum and to explore cultural and heritage values as part of the PSE framework and Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification.
Using worksheets and activities prepared directly linked to the curriculum, groups will be accompanied by the education officer from Gwynedd Archaeological Trust (GAT) to discover why these monuments, built almost 800 years ago, are internationally important.
To accompany the facilitated site-visit, a free class based session can be arranged in Gwynedd, Anglesey or Conwy to support pupils’ learning. For schools based outside this area, please contact the site to discuss suitable alternative nearby venues.
In addition, new education resources for use at castles for Primary and Secondary schools are now available to download from the Cadw website learning pages, to help incorporate Literacy and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) into self-led site visits, alongside history.
The free facilitated visits and accompanying class-based sessions are available Mondays to Thursdays during term time until Easter 2015 and are available in Welsh and in English. The activities must be booked in advance with the castle directly and are subject to availability. A full day can be booked to include free self-led exploration of the site
