Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has dismissed an appeal over a Norfolk three-turbine wind farm (originally four were proposed) which the planning inspector who held the recovered inquiry recommended should be allowed, because of the significant level of harm to the Grade l listed St Margaret’s Church and Hempnall Conservation Area.
The Secretary of State’s decision letter argued that the scheme, proposed for a site at Hempnall in south Norfolk, would pose a significant level of harm to the Grade l listed St Margaret’s Church and Hempnall Conservation Area, as well as the landscape in the vicinity of the wind farm. That harm outweighed the benefits of the project, Pickles concluded.
The unsuccessful appeal followed the non-determination of the application by the planning authority South Norfolk District Council.
