Conservation meets art – Porthmeor Studios, Cornwall

As the IHBC’s 2014 School explores ‘the art of conservation’, IHBC members and colleagues may be interested to learn of a multi award winning project located in a Grade II* listed pilchard cellars, formerly on the Buildings At Risk Register.

The property now provides workspaces for fisherman and artists, and the St. Ives School of Painting.

The Portmeor studios won the RIBA South West conservation award and in addition were a Cornwall buildings group joint winner, National Lottery Awards finalist and English Heritage Angel Awards finalist.

The scheme received funding from the Arts Council England towards the work.
