Applications to take part in the 4th national civic day on Saturday 21 June are being invited as communities across England prepare to celebrate a day with conservation-related highlights that currently include the preparation of a local list and recording the condition of war memorials.
The Civic Voice, national charity for the civic movement in England, writes:
Town and parish councils, community groups and businesses can all participate in Civic Day to showcase what is of value in their local area.
Griff Rhys Jones, President of Civic Voice said ‘Civic Day is more than simply a celebration of fantastic places and people. It is a call to all communities to make a real difference to their neighbourhoods. A call not just to seize Civic Day but seize the next 150 days to showcase what is of value to your community.’
Launching Civic Day in 2013, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles MP said ‘Civic Day is a great time to take pride in our local communities and the neighbourhoods we love. Enthusiastic and enterprising people, like those involved in civic societies, are the backbone of those communities.’
To get involved and learn more about opportunities available to communities to showcase what they value, Civic Voice is organising three events in:
- Bristol on March 29th
- Wakefield on April 5th
- London on April 17th
