Minister urged to exclude National Parks from barn conversion proposals

The Campaign for National Parks has issued an open letter to Planning Minister Nick Boles MP urging him to exempt National Parks from proposals to allow redundant barns to be converted into housing without planning permission due to concerns over the potential visual and environmental impact on the built and natural environment.

Campaign for National Parks Anne Robinson, Chairman of the Campaign for National Parks, said: ‘We recognise that National Parks are living, working landscapes and fully support the appropriate change of use of old buildings but it is essential that this happens in a managed way through the planning system’.

Signatories are deeply concerned that uncontrolled development could lead to significant harm to the natural beauty and special qualities of National Parks which contain a high number of redundant agricultural buildings.
