A group of London boroughs today begin a legal challenge over the government’s decision to relax planning rules to allow offices to be used as residential properties.
Islington, Camden, Richmond upon Thames and Lambeth LBCs are bringing a joint action against the plans, which the government introduced earlier this years.
Under the General Permitted Development Order, offices can be turned into homes without planning permission, giving residents no change to object.
The councils claim the new rules will lose employment space and ultimately cut local jobs, and the quality of housing will not be controllable.
