Canal & River Trust: Impact Report

The Canal & River Trust, which has IHBC past Chair John Yates as the institute’s nominated representative on its Board, has released its first Impact Report since its foundation in July 2012.

In that time, the Trust has raised £7 million in voluntary donations, attracted 17 corporate partnerships with organisations from Google to Marks & Spencer and recruited over 1,000 regular volunteers and 2,700 Friends.

The Trust have also set up a specialised apprenticeship scheme with Leeds College of Building and launched an educational website to help teachers link information about the nation’s waterways to the National Curriculum.

‘This country is blessed with the most extraordinary legacy of inland waterways. From their earliest days they have been transforming lives and communities. They are not here by accident.’ said Tony Hales, Chief Executive of the Trust. ‘The creation of the Trust is a lifeline for our canals and rivers. It gives us all the chance to work together to ensure they survive and benefit our children, and their children after them.’
