Herts council launches innovation toolkit

The Hertfordshire Building Futures Partnership has launched a new toolkit for developers and decision makers to help drive sustainable construction innovation in the county, with a linked consultation to end on 18 January 2013.

Building 4 Change writes:
The interactive guidance is the result of a year-long collaborative project with local authorities and construction professionals to enhance the sustainability of new development schemes.

The toolkit has been designed to complement national and local planning policy and other statutory regulations.

Users can select one of six development types from building extensions to large scale mixed use schemes via a virtual townscape. They can then access sustainable design guidance on a wide range of issues from water consumption to placemaking and climate change mitigation.

‘The toolkit offers a simple framework of questions and engaging advice that places sustainable design and construction at the heart of new development in Hertfordshire,’ said Richard Thake, executive member for environment and community safety at Herts County Council. ‘I would strongly advise those involved in bringing forward development in the county to use this valuable toolkit.’

The launch event marks the start of a consultation process to allow developers, architects and local authorities to provide valuable feedback on the toolkit. The consultation period ends on 18 January 2013.
