Vic Soc’s top ten on its ‘critical’ list

The Victorian Society has named its Top Ten Most Endangered Victorian Buildings.

A rare early Victorian railway station in Derbyshire, Ipswich’s abandoned former City Hall and an unusual spillway of natural stone in the West Yorkshire hills are just some of the buildings now most at risk, according to the Society’s report.

Submitted by members of the public, the buildings are now in a state of disrepair and urgent action is needed to save them – be that action by local authorities or a rethink of development strategy.

Chris Costelloe, Director of the Victorian Society, cited the Euston Arch as an example of precious heritage lost to ‘short-term economic concerns. ‘

‘We owe it to future generations to ensure that such memorable buildings are still around in 100 years. ‘
