IHBC’s new CPD Circular lists current accessible & cost-effective ‘Continuing Professional Development’ (CPD) including from local Branches, IHBC Recognised CPD Providers and more.

… Welcome to the October edition of the CPD Circular
As we move into autumn, October is looking to be a busy month with a great selection of affordable CPD opportunities covering the IHBC CPD competences for all levels of professional CPD requirements and personal interests for both IHBC members and non-members.
As well as in-person Branch events on fire protection, retrofit, enforcement, and context in planning and design there are numerous events from our IHBC Recognised CPD Providers – The Heritage Alliance, Place Services, South Coast Studio, World Heritage UK, Heritage Network, RIBA, Victorian Society, C20 Society, National Heritage Ironwork Group, CIOB, EARTHA, West Midlands Heritage Trust and Edinburgh World Heritage.

Firstly a few reminders of October events featured in last month’s CPD Circular.
- Scotland Branch: ‘Fire Protection in Historic Buildings’ Branch Partnership – an in-person event on 1 October
- East Midlands Branch: AGM and CPD on the retrofit of traditional and historic buildings – an in-person even on 6 October
- Wales Branch: ‘Fire Safety in Historic Buildings’ – an in-person event on 21 October
- West Midlands Branch: WMHT Careers Fair an in-persion event on 21 October
- IHBC Regional Branches: ‘Enforcement in the Historic Environment’ an in-person event on 27 October
- East Anglia Branch: AGM and ‘Placemaking and Context Design and Planning for Historic Areas’ CPD branch Partnership – an in-person event on 29 October
West Midlands Branch are hosting an in-person Membership Accreditation Training Event (MATE) on 15 October (14:30 – 16:30) at Fazeley Studios, 191 Fazeley St, Deritend, Birmingham, preceded by a morning event being organised by RICS in West Midlands (Surveying in Conservation), which IHBC members are encouraged to attend.
The afternoon session will start with an introduction to the IHBC and the West Midlands Branch followed by a membership seminar explaining the different types of membership application with a workshop on what to include. There will be input from existing members (some of whom have recently completed the process) and from assessors. There will be an opportunity to relax and engage in some networking afterwards at a local pub (TBC).

If you can’t make this one then there is an opportunity in November to attend two online sessions:
- Are you a Supporter who is ready to apply for Affiliate membership but unsure of what is required then sign up for the free online Supporter to Affiliate Surgery Session on 18 November (12:00 – 12:45).
- Or are you ready to apply for IHBC accreditation (Full & Associate) and want to demystify the process then sign up for the online free Membership Accreditation Training Event (MATE) on 18 November (13.00 – 14:30).
