Revenue to target thousands of property owners with levies in bid to boost housing stock, reports The Independent.

The Independent writes:

There are almost 19,000 vacant residential properties across the country whose owners are to be targeted by Revenue in a move aimed at bringing more housing units back into use… The Cabinet approved plans to impose a tax of at least 7pc on derelict properties, to be collected by Revenue, initially targeting towns of more than 4,000 people…

The move is aimed at freeing up more short-term lets for longer-term housing use.

‘….  And when people see Revenue coming, I think behaviour will change.’
