IHBC features ‘Heritage from the Global doorstep’: Green Buildings with living brick… ‘that breathe green too’!

Dutch engineers have developed bricks that grow moss, purify the air, absorb CO2, and cool buildings, reports Green Architecture.

Green Architecture writes:

… Dutch engineers are developing innovative ‘living bricks’ that allow moss to grow directly on building surfaces… These bio-receptive bricks are designed with special porous materials that retain moisture and support natural moss growth without damaging structures….

The impact could be significant.

  • Moss absorbs CO? and airborne pollutants
  • Living walls naturally cool buildings and reduce urban heat
  • The surfaces help manage rainwater and moisture
  • Green facades support biodiversity in dense cities
  • Reduced heat absorption can lower energy demand for cooling
