IHBC members are invited to our next online Council on 8 April, on conservation in local government, opening our response to the 3rd Commitment in our Parliamentary Briefing, and offering a ‘scattergun’ of topics, from Conservation Officer Groups (COGs) and career support to data resources, recruitment strategies and more.
| Open to IHBC members only (all categories) Members: see your invite for the registration link. |
Rebecca Thompson, IHBC President writes:
I am delighted to update you further on the arrangements for our next virtual IHBC Council, on Wednesday 8 April from c.4.30pm, when more of our exclusive, unique and free member-led CPD is on offer
This Council includes a selective scoping of issues and opportunities linked to the Local Authority Conservation Officers & Services in the UK.
As previously noted, this Council responds to the 3rd of our Parliamentary ‘5 Commitments to Help Heritage Skills in Conservation…’ we presented in Westminster last November. That commits us to ‘Investigate the complex challenges in heritage management processes and skills and respond accordingly’, while you can see more detail HERE.
Member-led presentations on topical issues will shape our plans, all informed by your contributions at Council, online and apart.
Topics include (with more details to come: and all subject to change)
1. Presented papers (with summary titles):
- Christopher Reynolds, ‘The IHBC’s Competences… in local government’
- Bob Kindred MBE, ‘IHBC’s Market Intelligence Surveys…’
- Sheena Campbell, ‘… Conservation Officer Groups & the IHBC’
- Shona Simpson, ‘The Conservation Officer Group… from Scotland…’
2. Submitted papers (with potential for presentations at a future meeting):
- Adam Dyer, ‘Green upgrades for London…’
- Serena Cardozo, ‘From… architect to… Conservation Officer, via Public Practice‘
3. Advancing IHBC’s 3rd Parliamentary Commitment
- Sarah Homer, IHBC Branch Consultant and Support Officer: ‘Planning the IHBC’s Scoping Survey for its Parliamentary 3rd Commitment’
Even more opportunities for updates, queries and discussions are also available. As members, you can help shape the debate and content in advance and after through the ‘Suggestions Form’ linked below.
Do remember too that our Council is the IHBC’s advisory and training forum, open exclusively to IHBC members of all categories. Councils offer you the opportunity to raise matters from the floor – virtual or otherwise – so you can help shape our future activities and plans as well as plan your own professional development, including especially in voluntary roles with us, as outlined in our NewsBlog call HERE.
Future Councils will continue to build on our distinctive approach to CPD for the Conservation Professional, supporting practice alongside updates and debate on current sector and IHBC issues.
I hope you will enjoy the enhanced participatory experience offered by our next Council, and join in discussions with colleagues in our informed – but still necessarily controlled -environment, and look forward to welcoming you there.
To suggest content or contribute to our ongoing Council discussions, please lodge suggestions, queries or concerns by completing the form HERE
Open to IHBC members only (all categories)
NB: Not all matters or suggestions will be raised at any single Council
