The Listed Property Owners’ Club (LPOC) has secured the support of over 70 new MPs and peers as it re-establishes the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Listed Properties (APPG).
The LPOC writes:
The Club has been working hard to re-establish the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Listed Properties (APPG) and has secured the support of over 70 MPs and peers, who have agreed to join the APPG – many more than in previous Parliaments. Our Parliamentarians represent all corners of the United Kingdom.
The APPG will speak out for listed property owners in the UK and raise awareness in Parliament of the difficulties experienced and the roles played by listed property owners in protecting the nation’s heritage.
With increased costs of ownership and under-resourced planning departments causing concern, the Club is putting more of their resources into getting the right information to key decision-makers within Government and ensuring Ministers understand the real issues of ownership.
At an Inaugural Meeting held in the House of Lords in mid-February, former Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary, the MP for Braintree, The Rt Hon Sir James Cleverly, was elected Chair of the APPG.
As a long-serving local Member of Parliament, Sir James understands the value of listed buildings to the economy, he is keenly aware that helping owners is also about ensuring their continued role as custodians of national heritage, supporting local businesses, and maintaining the UK’s global reputation as a leading heritage tourist destination.
What is an APPG?
APPGs are cross-Party groups, run by and for Members of the Commons and Lords. Many choose to involve individuals and organisations from outside Parliament in their administration and activities. As Secretariat to the APPG on Listed Properties, LPOC plays a key role in helping APPG members raise awareness in Parliament of the role played by owners in protecting the nation’s heritage.
