Southend Council has pledged to use ‘every tool in the toolbox’ to take legal action against the owners of the Kursaal’s lease if urgent repairs are not carried out, reports The Echo.
The Echo writes:
The council is aiming to set aside £30,000 this year to employ a ‘dilapidations buildings expert’ to painstakingly examine deterioration in the Grade II listed building. Once identified, London-based property group AEW… must not allow the building to fall into disrepair…
… Tony Cox, leader of the Reform Group, said: ‘… If they are in breach of the lease we should be taking action against them, not just notice to repair the building…’
… Daniel Cowan, leader of the council, said: ‘We need to see what the experts say and once we have the details we then need to take legal advice on what is the appropriate next stage…
… It has to be handled in a careful and proper way and enforced through the lease contract. We want to be clear we are taking this seriously.’
