Britain’s oldest public beach hut is set to be demolished by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP Council) reports The Daily Echo.
The Daily Echo writes:
The wooden cabin was first built on Bournemouth seafront in 1909 and was the first municipal hut in the country… The surviving 7ft by 7ft hut even has a blue plaque on it which reads: ‘Bournemouth beach bungalow constructed 1909. First municipal beach hut in the UK.’ … one of a row of 29 set to be razed to make way for urgent repairs to the nearby Bournemouth pier…
BCP Council has said the huts are in a run down state and are coming to the end of their lives and suggested they will not be replaced…
Local historian Hattie Miles said: ‘I think Bournemouth beach hut 2359 should be preserved…’
