A new CIOB Technical Information Sheet by Prof. John Edwards, IHBC Technical Panel lead and Director of Edwards Hart Consultants, addresses what retrofit is, the approach to be taken and processes to be followed, while summarising pertinent technical issues, retrofit measures and the roles involved.
John Edwards said: ‘This guide on the retrofit of buildings, takes a professional approach to the subject and doesn’t align itself to any particular standard or other guidance and therefore suits a global audience. Often standards and sets of guidance are drafted through consensus and are influenced by many types of factors, but this document is different’.
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) writes:
This Technical Information Sheet focuses on what retrofit is, the approach to be taken and processes to be followed, while summarising pertinent technical issues, retrofit measures and the roles involved, and has been designed to be of use anywhere in the world because it does not refer to any specific country or reference any regulations or laws.
The retrofit of buildings is expected to become one of the largest activities in the global construction industry due to the need to deal with climate change, to both reduce carbon emissions and help buildings become more resilient. This Technical Information Sheet focuses on what retrofit is, the approach to be taken and processes to be followed. It also summarises pertinent technical issues, retrofit measures and the roles involved. It has been designed to be of use anywhere in the world because it does not refer to any specific country or reference any regulations or laws.
