Historic England (HE) will soon launch a new online community of practice aimed at local authority heritage staff, and there is an opportunity in July for any Conservation Officer(s) – or equivalent – working in a local planning authority in England to help shape the development of this new group by contributing to its climate change guidance.

Historic England will shortly be publishing a new Advice Note ‘Adapting Historic Buildings for Energy and Carbon Efficiency’. The new Local Authority Heritage Community will provide a support network for staff in local authority heritage teams. It will complement the advice and training Historic England will be offering around this topic. The online community will be opened to members in the Summer, with activities starting in early Autumn.
Historic England invites any local authority colleagues with responsibility for building conservation to get involved early, to help us finalise the purpose and focus of the new community, and to shape activities to promote membership and active use of the community. A free training course is planned, delivered online by expert community managers the KnowledgeHub to support these ‘early adopters’.
