The Welsh Government has asked Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to investigate setting up a national park in north east Wales but The Daily Post reports that the plans will be opposed by Powys County Council.

The Daily Post writes:
… Parts of Denbighshire, Flintshire, and Wrexham council’s as well as Powys would be in the park. The Welsh Government has said that national parks are important for the environment, help tackle the nature emergency and achieve more sustainable tourism. An “engagement” exercise took place in October and November which included public meetings held in in Llanfyllin, Ruthin and Llangollen and a number of online sessions.
The process is currently in the “gathering evidence” stage. In 2024 it is expected that the proposals and boundary would be firmed up ahead of possible implementation by 2026.
