Proposals to remove the Shell Building in Tullos were denounced in an open letter by several north-east climate groups, university professors, and architects, reports Aberdeen Live.

Oil giant Shell appears to remain committed to the demolition of its former Aberdeen office despite a letter urging against its destruction.

Proposals to remove the Shell Building in Tullos after the company moved to the Silver Fin Building on Union Street were denounced in an open letter by several north-east climate groups, university professors, and architects.

In response, Simon Roddy, Shell UK’s senior vice-president, told the Guardian: “For decades Tullos was a fantastic home for Shell in Aberdeen.

“After completing our move to the Silver Fin Building on Union Street, we are evaluating options for the future use of the Tullos site.

“Removal of the buildings will help unlock the potential of the site to make a positive contribution…”

A report submitted to the council concluded that the building’s age and condition mean it is unlikely a new operator would take it on…

A council spokesperson told the Guardian that demolitions of this nature might not require planning consent.

They said: “The council are in receipt of an environmental impact assessment screening report, which officers are currently working through and will respond to in due course.”
