Wooden sheds and more at Bristol’s historic Underfall Yard – ‘home to maritime businesses involved in boatbuilding, marine engineering, metal working and training’ – went ablaze on 6 May, Bristol 247 reported, with restoration funding now sought, while Bristol Ferry reported on being ‘heartbroken at the loss of this significant historical piece of Bristol’s maritime history’.

Bristol 247 writes:
Wooden sheds at Underfall Yard were ablaze early on Saturday morning as fire crews from across Bristol fought to control a serious fire…
It appears that the fire broke out in sheds which contain boatbuilding businesses, on the side of the historic yard nearest to the Cottage pub – outside of which a boat was also on fire…
… As well as its popular visitor centre, Underfall Yard has a number of businesses based around the boatyard, including boatbuilders Shipshape and Star Yachts.
The Bristol Post writes:
Bristol Ferry has issued a statement following a serious fire at Underfall Yard on Friday (May 9)….
‘We are devastated to confirm that last night a serious fire at Underfall Yard has destroyed our boat maintenance shed. We are relieved to say that no staff or members of the public were hurt and that our fleet of four ferries were safely moored at our Muddock pontoon.’
