English Heritage (EH) has commissioned research to establish the threats and risks facing local authority heritage assets in a climate where cutbacks and other pressures are causing local authorities to dispose of heritage assets, or transferring their management to other organisations

A summary of the brief (in PDF format) and our questionnaire for potential and new owners of heritage assets currently owned by local authorities (in Word format) are available below for download.
We would be very interested to hear from organisations such as local civic societies, building preservation trusts, and other similar groups that may be interested in acquiring and managing one or more local heritage assets or may have experience of making an acquisition. Such assets might include a listed building, scheduled monument, registered park or garden, or simply a cherished local heritage feature that is not formally designated – a well-designed local library or museum building, a public monument, or a local public park, for example. Our reason for asking for your help is to establish the capacity of the voluntary sector to take on such assets.
