Working to the theme ‘Valuing places – old and new: why? what? how ?’, Built Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), the link body for Scotland’s built and historic environment non-governmental bodies, has been announced as taking place on Thursday 8th September at the Roxburghe Hotel, Charlotte Square, Edinburgh.
BEFS says:
Following the success of BEFS’ inaugural congress last year, we are currently planning this year’s congress which will address the topic VALUING PLACES.
BEFS’ campaign, to put people at the heart of places – reminds us that places are for people and that to develop and manage good places, we need to understand the values that people associate with ‘place’.
The Scottish Government’s core purpose of achieving sustainable economic growth makes it imperative for us as practitioners to understand the economic value that good place-making can generate. Why do we need to demonstrate value? Arguably to support better decision-making, to prioritise investment and to measure successes against delivering National Performance Framework outcomes.
So how do we go about understanding, measuring and demonstrating what it is that people value about places? And how do we build these factors into developing new places and managing our existing historic environments?
