IHBC School ’early bird’ rates end 16 May

The ‘early bird’ booking rates for the IHBC’s Annual School will finish on 16 May, and anyone interested in attending this School, the most important event in the calendar of the conservation specialist, should book now to ensure that your costs are kept to a minimum.

Jo Evans, IHBC Chair said: ‘I would like to urge and cajole all those who are thinking about booking a place at the Annual School to do it as soon as possible to take advantage of the very short time left available to make the most of the early bird booking.’

‘The booking system is so simple and straightforward, it takes no time and is a very convenient way to ensure that you secure your place at the School.  This year’s programme is excellent and varied and will appeal to a broad range of professionals in the sector, so there is no excuse not to get your booking submitted today!’

Delegates should remember that there are many ways to reduce costs in addition to early booking, including:

  • taking non-residential options: as a major tourist centre, Llandudno has a huge number of beds at highly competitive rates
  • opting for a Day School rate: train connections are especially good, and the Day School is timed specifically to ensure that delegates from London can complete it without needing an overnight stay, while early train bookings makes the journey costs even more competitive
  • seeking support from Branches that offer bursaries (the national bursaries are all allocated) and
  • seeking partial support through employer contributions and/or tax relief for private sector interests, where appropriate, to mitigate actual costs.

The IHBC’s School gives access to a tight package of professional development relevant across all parts of the historic and built environment sector interests.  With a programme organised by leading practitioners volunteering their services to the IHBC, the School provides unique access to issues that lie at the heart of current professional needs and priorities.

The 2011andudno School itself is an exciting opportunity to explore the full breadth of new opportunities, approaches and solutions to conserving the historic environment.  As today’s solutions demand new partnerships and different ways to deliver services, across both the public and private sectors, success demands innovation, originality and foresight.  As we seek new models for conservation and stewardship, the IHBC’s Annual and Day School each provide a perfect opportunity to test these challenging waters.

Seán O’Reilly, IHBC Director said: ‘To help members and colleagues in these tough times, we’ve already extended the duration of the reduced ‘early bird’ rate as long as we reasonably can.  Yet the Annual School represents only one part of our wide-ranging obligations to our members, and our responsibilities both as a charitable and a professional body mean that we can no longer fairly continue that support’.

Richard Dean, IHBC Wales Branch Chair, said: ‘I’m delighted we’ve been able to give our members and colleagues the best opportunities to come along at these under-written rates, and no less delighted that so many have already been able to take advantage of them.  I’m looking forward to many more booking in advance of the end of the reduced rate’.

The IHBC is extremely grateful to the Linford Group, as the principle sponsor of the School, and to English Heritage and Cadw for their support for the event, recognising it as an essential CPD opportunity for key staff.
