The IHBC has commenced research for English Heritage on the use and effectiveness of Listed Building Repairs Notices, Urgent Works Notices, Compulsory Purchase and other statutory action in tackling Buildings at Risk (BAR), and is seeking input outside from outside local authorities.
The aim of the study is to provide evidence and updated guidance for local planning authorities to encourage more frequent and more effective use of the legislation. The survey will measure the use and effectiveness of Listed Building Repair Notices, Urgent Works Notices, Compulsory Purchase and other statutory action over 5 years starting from 1st January 2006.
Information gathered through the survey will also feed into an update of ‘Stopping the Rot: a step by step guide to serving urgent works and repairs notices’. We would also welcome suggestions and requests for new information in a revision of ‘Stopping the Rot’ and case studies of various types of action.
The survey request has been sent to all local authorities in England. Local authorities who have not carried out relevant action can help very simply by completing the nil return page in the survey.
The IHBC is also keen to have input into the work from conservation professionals outside local authorities, such as suggestions of what might be included in a revision or case studies for use.
