Historic England [HE] in partnership with the IHBC’s South West (SW) Branch and Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, are hosting a free conference on ‘Reducing risk of fire in thatched buildings’, in Exeter on 13 November, with booking closing on 9 November.
Alison Henry, Senior Architectural Conservator at Historic England and an IHBC member, said: ‘This one day event, organised by Historic England, the South West Branch of the IHBC, and Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, will present the results of recent research into the causes of thatch fires, explain new guidance to reduce the risk and consider the implications for listed buildings.’
‘The issues that arise in the aftermath of a fire will also be discussed and there will be a demonstration of fire-fighting techniques for thatched roofs’.
IHBC SW Branch writes:
‘The day is aimed primarily at conservation officers and other building conservation professionals, thatchers, thatched-property owners, fire-fighters and installers of wood-burning stoves. The morning will be discussing the current research and guidance while the afternoon will be more practical with hands-on demonstration and advice’.
The day is free to attend, but places are limited so registration is essential.
The venue is Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters, The Knowle, Clyst St George, Exeter, Devon, EX3 0NW.
Booking Forms must be returned to Nigel Pratt at Dartmoor National Park at npratt@dartmoor.gov.uk by Friday 9 November.
