BEFS’ first Annual Congress, with the IHBC as sponsor, has been hailed a great success, commencing with a keynote speech by Ruth Parsons, Historic Scotland’s Chief Executive, and concluding with an address by Fiona Hyslop, Minister for Culture and External Affairs in the Scottish Government.
The Congress was held in the Roxburghe Hotel in Charlotte Square Edinburgh on 2 September 2010. It attracted over one hundred delegates from BEFS existing membership as well as from non-member organisations and groups involved in the Historic and Built Environment or with an interest in the wider place making agenda.
Delegates heard from both the keynote speakers and enjoyed an innovative Market Place experience, with a choice of “soapbox” speakers in the Congress Market Place about how good practice and policy developments had achieved the theme of the day, ‘Special Places-Special Relationships’.
A full Congress report and images will be made available on the BEFS website within the next few weeks, while the IHBC’s journal, Context, will also carry a short notice of the event.
