Eric Pickles has responded positively to the cross-sector promotion of ‘larger than local’ planning in a letter that adopts ‘strategic planning’ as an official phrase in the new government.
Pickles has said that the government is ‘considering what additional tools or mechanisms can be added to the legislative framework to enable “strategic planning.”’
Kelvin MacDonald, leading the campaign for RTPI, has said: “I am very pleased to say that the Secretary of State has responded to our letter of 29th July in what I consider to be a very positive way’, noting that the response ‘provides a real focus and opportunity for engagement that the CLG did not necessarily have to offer us.”
