BEFS highlights data resources on Europe & seeks thoughts BREXIT priorities by 20 June…

Euclid ReportBuilt Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), the link body for built and historic environment interests in Scotland, is highlighting research resources on European links while asking for thoughts on Brexit priorities by 20 June.

BEFS director Euan Leith writes:

‘The Scottish Government has collated legislation and directions that apply to the historic environment which will be affected by the UK leaving the EU. As part of the analysis HES has asked BEFS to help identify how significant each item of legislation is for daily work, and also to gather views on the need for the continued existence of each item, as well as its current fitness for purpose.’

‘Negotiation on the terms of the UK’s exit from the EU are still due to begin on June 19th and it is important that the heritage sector can help prioritise areas of most importance as early as possible.’

‘Any responses should be submitted to jrobertson@befs.org.uk by Tuesday 20 June.’

BEFS writes:

The Scottish Government has collated the attached table identifying legislation which applies to the historic environment, and which would be affected by the UK leaving the EU. As part of the analysis HES has asked BEFS Members to help identify how significant each item of legislation is for your daily work, and also to gather your views on the need for the continued existence of each item, as well as its current fitness for purpose… Responses will assist civil servants in identifying policy areas to prioritise.

We would be grateful if you could answer the questions for areas within your competency and return it to Jo Robertson by Tuesday 20 June.

Also attached is the Euclid report on the last decade’s EU Funding for heritage in Scotland which is estimated to be a minimum of £36.8m.

A similar report for Historic England identified £450m EU funding for heritage in England for the same period.
