Clumber Park says no to fracking – but energy firm could take legal action

Press reports cite National Trust bosses as having rejected a request from chemicals firm Ineos to conduct surveys at Clumber Park to test for shale gas – a process that could lead to fracking.

Ineos have said they could pursue legal action over the refusal, potentially forcing the National Trust’s hand.  The company, which holds a licence to test Nottinghamshire land for shale gas, says it will begin surveys in the coming months – with a view to submitting planning applications for fracking this year. Ineos has a Government remit to carry out tests in parts of the county, including in Sherwood Forest and the Clumber Park tourist attraction. But the firm was denied permission by the National Trust for pre-fracking surveys at Clumber.

The trust, which runs Clumber Park, is firmly against fracking, saying it runs counter to their sustainable ethos.
