Headington Quarry memorial granted Grade II listing

The future of a Headington Quarry war memorial has been secured for future generations after it was granted Grade II listed status.

Historic England is running a UK-wide scheme to add 2,500 free standing First World War memorials to the National Heritage List.

Holy Trinity Church at Headington Quarry is the latest monument to benefit from the scheme and to enjoy greater protection.

The memorial was first unveiled at the church in October 1920 by General Sir Robert Fanshawe. The architect is believed to be Frank Ernest Howard.
