The Scottish Government wants to change the planning system so that it realises its full potential by improving procedures and perceptions, and reducing bureaucracy (closing date 4 Apr 2017).
The Government says there are 20 proposals for improving the planning system across four key areas of change:
- Making plans for the future:
Scotland’s: planning system should lead and inspire change by making clear plans for the future. To achieve this means simplifying and strengthening development planning. - People make the system work:
Scotland’s planning system should empower people to have more influence on the future of their places. To achieve this means improving the way people are involved in the planning process. - Building more homes and delivering infrastructure:
Scotland’s planning system should help deliver more high-quality homes and create better places where people can live healthy lives and developers are inspired to invest. To achieve this, planning should actively enable and co-ordinate development. - Stronger leadership and smarter resourcing:
Reducing bureaucracy and improving resources so Scotland’s planning system can focus on creating great places. To achieve this means removing processes that do not add value, and strengthen leadership, resources and skills.
