On the Atlas of Gentrification

The Atlas of Gentrification is a collection of data visualizations, graphs and maps that look at gentrification and related issues, such as segregation and income inequality, from London to Los Angeles.

Created by designer Herwig Scherabon, The Atlas of Gentrification looks at the drivers of change in Chicago, San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Portland Oregon, Los Angeles, Detroit, London and Glasgow. And the impact on the movement and displacement of people.

He used data that was often feely available from government bodies and then interpreted this and presented it visually through graphics. For example, a sunburst diagram shows the correlation between political changes and the UK housing market – and highlights the impact of Margaret Thatcher coming into office.
