HESPR-listed Purcell a key appointment for ‘Reimagining Wordsworth’ project

purcell_logoThe Wordsworth Trust has announced the lead practitioners in the transformation of Wordsworth’s home in time for the 250th anniversary of the poet’s birth, with Purcell – the IHBC HESPR-listed architectural practice and historic building consultant – leading on the redevelopment of the site, enhancing the visitor experience and uniting Wordsworth’s beloved landscape with the new facilities.

Nissen Richards Studio, the architecture, exhibition and theatre design firm, will lead on the interpretation design to develop an exciting narrative around William Wordsworth, creating a dynamic and inclusive conversation for new and existing audiences.

The project aims to convert existing buildings into a central visitor centre. Across the site, especially in the museum, larger windows will provide improved views of the landscape and there will be greater public access to gardens and woodlands. No significant changes are envisaged for Wordsworth’s home, Dove Cottage.

In February 2016, the Trust secured support (a ‘first round pass’) for a £4.75m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
